Bonsai West What a busy and wonderful time of year at Bonsai West! I can hardly come up for breath to find the time to write this newsletter. Everyone has been so busy getting the Nursery ready for spring and of course our Open House, happening this year on May 18th and 19th. As always, we'll have free Lectures, Garden tours, good food, great sales, and wonderful friends and company.

OPEN HOUSE SALE: 20% OFF EVERYTHING IN THE NURSERY! (sorry, walk-ins only, no mail order)

Here's the OPEN HOUSE SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

Saturday, May 18th:
Garden tour 12:30-1:30
with Michael Levin
Join Michael for his now famous annual Bonsai garden tour.
The Bonsai West collection consists of some of the oldest bonsai in the country many over 100 years old.
Come learn about their history and hear the story behind each of these beautiful specimens many that were created by the first generation of Japanese American bonsai artists in California after the war.

Bonsai West2 pm: Free Lecture/demo with Michael Levin
With 30 years of growing bonsai and growing a bonsai business, Michael has spent over half of life with his trees!
This Demo will combine The Art of Bonsai with the Horticulture of Bonsai, and Michael will share his insights and enthusiasm. He says:

"The things I love to share most about bonsai are my tips and techniques that have taken so many years to learn. While I have never taken any formal classes in bonsai my early teachers were the first generation of American Japanese bonsai masters. I learned mostly from watching them, however I have learned more from watching my trees and that is where the bulk of my education comes from."

Come enjoy this fun relaxed educational bonsai demo; you will learn a lot and also meet some wonderful bonsai friends.

May 19th, Sunday:

Garden tour 12:30-1:30 with Michael Levin

2 pm Lecture/Demo with Phil Hobkirk
Bonsai for beginners and everyone else!
Phil will be heading up this very exciting and important demo on the art of growing healthy and beautiful Bonsai.
Come in and learn how to grow bonsai from the ground up, enjoy the day, ask lots of questions, and watch Phil prune wire, style and create a bonsai from scratch.

We have been landscaping and expanding our driveway, painting the trim board and tidying up the yard. We have been transplanting like crazy this year and doing lots of trimming as well, to get everything looking beautiful.Bonsai West

Our new Pot Shipment arrived late in April and we are thrilled! Wait till you come out and see the great quality and fabulous prices. Michael found new kilns in China to work with and the craftsmanship is outstanding.

We will also be receiving our new shipment of tropical indoor bonsai from Florida before the open house weekend.

For whatever reason you come out, it's a wonderful time to visit the nursery because it is the nicest time to see all the fresh new foliage emerging from winter. The birds are singing and so are our trees.

Tips for the Season:

We are all looking forward to seeing you soon -

Michael, Mike, Phil and Kelly
